Local store owner joins parent and sister as BIGGBY COFFEE franchisees

DEWITT, MI., October 11, 2011 – After working the front line of BIGGBY COFFEE for more than a decade, DeWitt native, Margo Rees, will be opening her very own BIGGBY COFFEE franchise inside the Dewitt Meijer (12821 Crossover Dr.) on Monday, Oct. 31st and just in time for the holiday season!

A second generation BIGGBY COFFEE owner, Rees got involved with the B happy brand when her parents Deb and Tom Kirchen opened their first store in Lansing in 2001. Two years later, the family opened a location in their hometown of DeWitt and later opened stores in Lansing, St. Johns and Grand Ledge. Rees’ sister, Paula Thompson, is also very much a part of the BIGGBY COFFEE family, owning locations in Lansing and Ionia.

“I have known for a long time that opening my own BIGGBY was exactly what I wanted to do,” Rees said. “I love everything about it, especially feeling and seeing the sense of community that can so quickly develop in your store.”

Since this past July, BIGGBY COFFEE has opened six locations throughout three states, including another location in the Petoskey, MI Meijer. Additionally, another BIGGBY store is set to open this month in the Okemos, MI Meijer is as well.

“We are pleased to welcome Biggby Coffee into our Meijer stores,” said Frank Guglielmi, director of public relations for Meijer.  “The popularity of the Biggby brand and menu will be a great addition for customers looking for a quick meal, light snack or beverage while shopping in our store.”

“I would not have the opportunity to do something I love so much if it wasn’t for my family,” Rees said. “I am so excited to get my store open and ready for the environment that Meijer will bring. I am definitely looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces but also excited for the new ones I will meet.”

The café will offer all the BIGGBY COFFEE favorites including, brewed coffee, specialty lattes, tea lattes, frozen drinks, creme freeze smoothies and more! Hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Sunday.

East Lansing, Mich.-based BIGGBY® COFFEE opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. BIGGBY COFFEE introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprises guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY COFFEE has 137 cafes open or under contract across seven states including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas.  For more information, visit
